St. Paul CME Old Fashion Church Cookout
Old Fashion Church Cook Out with a new twist!
Every third Sunday of September, St. Paul CME Church of Savannah, Georgia holds their Annual Church Cookout. This year’s event was held at the Coastal Empire Fair Grounds in Savannah, Georgia. This outreach project for St. Paul reaches out to the community to help those that are hurting, helpless, homeless, hungry and needy. This years theme for the Cookout was an “Old Fashion Church Cookout, with a twist!” which combined some things from old church cook outs and some new things along with that. The attendees enjoyed traditional church cook out events like Horse Shoes, a tug of war competition, singing and of course the food; but then a new twist was some things for the younger generation. Events like face painting, arts and crafts, board games, bounce houses, a live DJ, a picture booth and of course door prizes and give aways.

Georgia Southern University ROTC 5K Run
Snacks for Soliders
Georgia Southern University will host the ROTC Eagle Battalion’s 5K Race on Saturday, April 21 to benefit the University’s “Snacks for Soldiers” program.
“Snacks for Soldiers” provides deployed members of the military with non-perishable snack items. Georgia Southern began the program last fall and has already collected and shipped nearly 15,000 snacks to military personnel overseas. The program is currently sponsoring the 3rd Infantry Division out of Ft. Stewart, Ga.
“Georgia Southern University wants these men and women to know that they are in our thoughts and prayers,” said Colonel George Fredrick, ROTC Eagle Battalion Commander. “We plan to send more than 900 boxes of snacks to Afghanistan during the next year, so we’re asking everyone to support ‘Snacks for Soldiers.’
Event
This event has become an annual 5K run in the Savannah and Statesboro area and has continued to grow each year it has been put on. This year the run featured over 600 particapants and raised in the excess of $ 7,000.00 for the Snacks for Soliders program. With increased sponsorship partners each year and the steadly increasing number of runners for this event, this run has become a major fund raiser for the ROTC program to support deserving organizations like Snacks for Soliders and the Wounded Warrior Project. All of the proceeds are going to the snacks for Soldiers campaign where we are sending Soldiers who are currently deployed to Afghanistan a care package from Georgia Southern University.
